Seriously I am getting so fed up with the amount of advertising when trying to get to a download.

I can understand that creators of Sims content need to maintain a website in order for users to download their content and advertising is probably the best way to make money to support it.  BUT some are just getting ridiculous!

Trying to catch up on what's new after being away, I became so frustrated when trying to download some sets.  One site I couldn't even download, because the ad was almost covering the link.  When I finally managed to click on it, several SPAM type ads came up, I think it was 5, so I thought........'thank you, I didn't really need that in my game anyway'.

Another place I went to was similar, I had to actually restart my computer because it came up with an authentication from Microsoft that just disabled my pc........seriously angry

The next site, every click was an ad, even the link to the Mesh......I downloaded 6 pieces from that creator, that accounts for at least 12 ads, sometimes more.

Another place didn't have a lot of ads, but to get to the download link, it took me 5 clicks.........are we there yet?

I don't mind supporting any creator of Sims content, but I guess there are some people who are just plain greedy.  I wonder if they are aware of what we downloaders have to go through to get to a link.......oh and I don't appreciate the porn ads!   I can't imagine what an underage Simmer would think if one of those ads came up in their face.  One word DISGUSTING  gnome

I know my little rant wont change a thing but I needed to get this off my chest.

Happy Simming everyone.......soon we could all be cc free!  giggle

I had the same rant on the weekend. I was on a download spree and those adfly things are so annoying. My PC didn't like it one bit, with ads all over the place, it just shut down the page, saying it was unsafe. I didn't get what I needed.
I often buy a coffee (button) for favorite creators, if they have one.
I love Tingleinglelaters stuff, but it is all mostly pay stuff, which I did go ahead and buy. But the TOU makes it so I cant use it in houses etc, so it was pointless wasting my money. I mean, come on guys, this is a game isn't it???

Tilly I have supported so many sites since I first began Simming, and I still pay to have the ads removed at TSR.
I just think it's getting worse, and I begin to wonder if it's really worth visiting some sites.

I have problems when people put their cc behind multiple adfly links...

...however, I do have very serious antivirus software, which I pay for (ESET) and Malwarebytes (professional), which I also pay for. Between the two applications, it runs me about $90 per year. That sounds steep, but I do use the internet for a lot of other things (quite extensively). I have never had a virus and the malware program has caught several nuisance items. Both have prevented any serious issues. They both update daily and run constantly. They deal with my email, my browsing, and prevent hacking type issues.

I also update my operating system automatically (I'm on Windows 10) and have only run into one issue since upgrading to it. I regularly update all my software.

Yes, I'm a nerd, lol.

Also, I use ad blocker and adfly skipper Chrome extensions. In the rare occasions that I really, really want cc from a site that I cannot click on fast enough with the adfly skipper left on, because I do have excellent antivirus and malware applications running, I have been able to click through to the actual download links. Only once have I declined to go through because my protection software detected the presence of an actual problem on the other side of that link.

Many of the Asian sites or Eastern Bloc Sites can be difficult to navigate, but I have been a registered member of those sites for a very long time (since ts2 days) and thankfully google translate has made it a lot easier to figure out what I'm actually looking at in the descriptions :D

I've actually waited several days to download multiple file sets during my ts3 days due to the time delays built into deposit and turbobit file servers!!! (Yes, I'm persistent when it comes to downloading cc that I want).

So, if I really, really want cc, I will go through 6 adfly links to get some cc. I'm not happy about it, but I will do it.

I won't do it for crappy cc, though. Sigh. It has to be good for me to be willing to go through that many links, lol.

I used to have an annual subscription at TSR. I still pay a monthly fee for the ad-free, like you, Lorry :D Also, like you Lisa, I donate a lot of coffee, buys sets from Tingelingelator, Simcredible and many others. Their cc is worth it. I know many TOUs do not allow you including their cc in houses; however you could suggest that they can get the cc for themselves. Just indicate that it is not free. Leave the windows out and state that. I've seen that done often enough for a lot of lots offered for download.

I've also seen the opposite - where people include all kinds of cc that the original creators have stated in their TOUs not to do that and some people just don't care and unlike you, do it anyway :(

I much prefer your ethics, Lisa <3

Trust me, if people want the house to look like what you've built, they will go to her site and buy the window set.

I get it, though. There do seem to be a lot of ts4 creators (in comparison to ts2 and ts3 creators) who are attempting to make a living, or at least some extra money, off of their ts4 cc.

And, as long as there are people like us who love cc, I do think it will continue.

I'm not sure what browsers you ladies use out there to search out your cc. If it is Chrome, I can point you to the extensions I use... if you use other browsers, do some searching for similar extensions. I am sure that similar apps exist to make your lives a bit easier :D

I am just as annoyed by the adfly thing, and all the others, but I do suffer the pain if it is something I want.
But, one thing I will not do is pay for a converted item...... it is just totally against my principles to "buy" something from a creator if it is not their own in the first place.
If I see content I will hunt down the original and convert it myself rather than pay for it.

I respect the creators hard work to put together the mesh way to much to do that.
And if making money is what you are after, then at least be honest about it.

There are quite a number of sites that I would not support even if I really like what they have on offer.
I do pay for TSR and have almost all of SimCredible's stuff. But that is worth it.

Lorry, I have to agree, we can rant as much as we like, this will probably never change.

I agree with you on that, Anita... paying someone who has converted something someone else created? Ugh.

I don't think I've done that. I really don't.

Simcredible rarely charges for sets and I can't think of a clutter set they've charged for... I think I even purchased the baby set, lol... Seriously, if a creator puts out great cc, I'll support them. I can't do a lot, but I do what I can when I can. I have made a determined effort to click like, thank you, or heart everything. I comment a lot. I send notes. I want creators to know I appreciate them, their time, their effort. The fact they share these things with me and the community.

I say it a lot - my game would be empty without cc <3

I couldn't play the game without cc, no way!
I wouldn't pay for TSR either.....so I suffer those ads impatient
Ah well, if I really really want something, ill do it, but only then, lol

It seems we all have the same ethics so far as paying for good content.

I have bought every set from Simcredible since Sims 2, I have always paid for a membership at TSR since Sims 2, I have also supported Tingelinglater, Newsea and many others, because I believe their content is well worth it and thankfully I am not bothered with endless ads!

LOL if I want a set I can't get......I will ask Suzanne if she has it buddy ......NO ADS rofl301

Is it only content for Sims 4 that has so much advertising?
Funny thing, I used to hate Deposit Files, but I have just downloaded a house through them, and it was so easy........go figure.

Suzanne I use Firefox and I love it!

If you are just getting one file through Deposit, it is just wait 60 seconds and go... If you are getting more than one, the wait time increases with each file. I've waited hours when downloading multiple files from a site/creator, lol. Seriously :D

And, If I have it (especially if it's just not available anymore AND you've done what you could to try and get it, I'll be more than happy to assist you). I have no issues with that.

Oh dear don't get me started on my pet peeve =) Unfortunately people seem to care more about money than anything else these days =P

People selling converted items - especially when the original creator not only allows conversions but also allows free use of their items in builds etc is plain wrong as I stated on Tumblr quite some time ago, Tingelinglater is not my fave person. I will use her conversions of Adele's items in lots and share them - as per Adele's TOU.

Really if you are creating CC JUST to make money - your time would probably be better spent in a real job. Quite frankly a lot of the stuff people expect to be paid for is utter crap anyway. At least with donation sets you have a choice, or even buying a cup of coffee if you want!

Seems to be a thing of the mememe generation who expect to be paid for everything because they deserve it! It's quite revolting really.

I think that most of us that have been around for a while feel this way (and I wasn't around since the beginning of ts2, even!).

I've been really appalled at the change in a portion of the community in ts4 :(

I stand up for creators and do my best to inform people about antivirus and malware software and why they should pay for good applications... but, well... sometimes people just don't understand why they should pay to protect the investment in their systems.

I agree with every single point, every one of you made!!! I can't ad-fly, short.se, deposit file, and all the other money making things!

And, like Anita, if a creator has converted something that some other creator spend time and effort on for a previous game and is putting it behind ad-fly or trying to charge for it, I will convert it myself and include the mesh (with credit to the original creator, always!) I know what goes into creating, especially if you're a mesh creator, I've only just learned and I don't do anything complicated and it still takes a lot of time.

And, Suzanne - I bet you have inadvertently paid someone for conversions of other peoples creations. Do you have any of Mio-Sims things? Probably, almost 95% of the content on his/her site is conversions, and every single one of the downloads offered is put behind ad-fly.

I've downloaded things thru ad-fly and it's irritating but if it saves me from having to convert something, then usually I'll do it. But, what I WON'T DO is follow that converter's TOU about not including "their meshes" with recolors and linking them back to the site to grab them, when the original creator's TOU allowed their things to be used freely with credit. It's not that converter's mesh to begin with, yes, they took the time to convert it, but they didn't create it. I always give credit to the original creator and the converter for their time. But, I follow the original creators TOU for any conversions.

I too pay a year subscription to TSR, well it's quarterly or every half year, can't remember, it's like $20 whenever I renew it. But, I do that for convenience of the download basket and no ads.

Oh my gosh I have everything Mio has converted, and I never thought for a minute that I was inADvertently paying for the download. I thought it was more for the up keep of the website.
There are worse out there than Mio though, the "CLICK 5 TIMERS" pull hair out swear

Newbie here,
I have Ghost and AdRemover and Ad.ly skipper googles extension. They have it for explorer etc. I know that it is a lot together but, I find it works. You and stop everything and modify them too. If you want some sites you want to help with the Ad.ly you can. The programs are easy to change and change to your own setting. I find it better because of the issue of constant horrible ads ect., They often update and perfect and compatible. I really hope I made sense to you all. I love them. The best I have found. danceG

I don't mind AdFly if it is only used once for a download.  I am willing to support the creators of great CC, but when you have 2 or more AdFly links for 1 download I think it's a bit much. giggle

I had something at one time..can't remember what it was..it worked for getting rid of ads..but then I felt guilty using it..and felt if I got caught I would get banned from the site..lol..so stopped..so are these things legal...and if so can anyone supply a link to them..I normally don't go on a pay site..but those stupid ads that are on Photobucket and Tinypic freeze my computer up before I can get the links to the pictures I need to post..

Let me tell you, when you get a fully naked woman early in the morning while having breakfast and browsing your favourite Sims sites, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth swear

This happened, AGAIN, to me this morning and it made me wonder if these creators are aware of what these ads contain......not that they would care so long as they get their MONEY MONEY MONEY

I don't currently use pay sites but I have in the past (a long time ago). I completely agree with your sentiments and those posted by others here.  I think its completely ridiculous to have to pay someone who converted another creators original content. I'm willing to support a website if they need donations to keep their custom content up. I know storage space can be costly.

TSR doesn't bother me to the point where I'll pay for it. Now Ad.fly, on the other hand, and I have some mighty strong words for each other. Most sites who use Ad.fly I don't download from. There's one in particular I really enjoy playing with their cc but every other link is Ad.fly and you have to click through half a dozen things to get there for one piece of cc. I don't need it that much, thanks.
