Ok, I need some help and advice on taking my Murals and making them into pictures with frames..so I need to know what are the sizes for the pictures..and how do I go about making them..
Also I have the Portable Photo Sketcher..they have several different picture frames..can this program be used for making pictures with frames for the Sims2 game..

Thank you for your help in advance rose2

Ok Sam ... for this purpose you´ve to learn how to recol ... and in this case specially a Sims 2 picture/painting.
That´s a bit more difficult as creating a wallpaper or mural. You have to deal with the SimPE tool and this will take a little more time than dealing with the HomeCrafter tool.

The size of a texture you turn into a picture/painting depends on the picture/painting size. And the things, that belong to it (like the frame and - sometimes - other components).

Here an example - this is the painting 'Lady in Red' (I hope, the name is tranlated correct - in my german version of Sims 2 it´s called 'Dame in Rot'):

For recoloring you need the original texture. You have to extract it with the SimPE out of the painting mesh. Then you can put your texture/picture over this texture in photoshop (or another graphic tool). The original texture looks like this:

Just compare it with the 'look' of the painting in Sims ... the lady looks a bit clinched and is mirrored horizontal. At the bottom you see the frame and the backside of the painting.
You have to regard this in your graphic work. You see, that the frame consists only of one part. So you cannot use a full frame picture when you want to change it. You allways have to do some work on the frame yourself (for example cut out a part of a predefined frame picture).
Here an example of my vintage bouquet recols I created on this mesh .... this is my 'overwork' of the original texture:

I changed the painting content and the frame. The backside (and back frame components) are not changed. And so it looks like in the game:

I suggest, that you should approach recoloring slowly and step by step with easy tasks. Your idea to start with recoloring a Sims painting with one of your murals is the right way.  claphands1
We should choose a painting where not so many obstacles have to be regarded (like mirroring and things like this) and that matches good with the size of your mural pictures.

For this purpose this painting is very suitable (in german it´s called "Zwei Hunde mit Olive" - don´t know the english name):

But first you have to learn the work with SimPE. I hope, that could be done in the 'be a colorist' contests and I will post an idea for a matching project I thought about for some days.

There has to be an easier way of doing these recolors than SimPE..how can it be so hard for me..

Now I am not having problems with using the Photo Studio when recoloring an in game picture..but using that object workshop is really hard..and that stupid Built DXT is still not working..I have uninstalled and installed 3 times the SimPE and DDS Utilities and still it's not working..what am I missing..I used it before to recolor some lights??????

Ok so I have everything up and running and then I stare at the SimPE screen again..

I open BB's picture frames..and she has to files in there..

1-Meshes: Buggygooz Painting Meshes
2-BB_feast_of-frames COLLECTION

Well I didn't want the painting meshes right just wanted the frames, so opened the collection files..into SimPE and of course what little brain I have just went blank..I have absolutely no idea what to do next because the 3 tutorials I have been looking at..has one thing and BB's collection files don't have it..I can't remember what it was..

Another thing is if I use the open button..?????? open will take me to the CC ?????????????????
And if I use the start button..??????? start will take me to the in game pictures

Sorry everyone..

Ok Sam, let´s give it another try. ;)

Situation: You want to use BBs frames with your painting recols. And now still are struggling getting one of those frames around your recol.

As I wrote in my little 'how to', in this case (using BBs frames) you don´t have to recol the frames. You only have to copy them in the game downloads folder. And additionally her master mesh of the basic kitchen counter (cause all frames are slaved to this).

BBs frames are shown with some of the ingame paintings (for example the 'suspence' painting). When you have BBs frames in the game, you see those ingame paintings twice in the buy catalog. The original and a copy of it with BBs frame around it.

If you want to create a recol with one of the frames, you have to make a recol of the original ingame painting.

Therefore you have to take the following steps (sorry for the german screens - I don´t have an english SimPE version):
1. Start SimPE. Choose the start button, not the open button in the object workshop frame.

Clicking the start button, SimPE generates a list of all game objects (this may last a while, depending on the amount of CC you actually have in the game).

2. To get to the paintings section, first choose the decoration folder and there the wall hanging folder.

Scroll down to the painting, you want to recol (I took the 'suspence' painting as example) and mark it. Then click on next on the top.

3. Confirm, that you want to recol it by clicking the start button.

I list the next steps without screens, cause I described them in my 'how to' with screens. Please take a look at it for more explanations (if you lost the link: find it here)

4. name and save your recol (although it is not done yet - SimPE first want´s a name, before you can make any changes)
5. export the texture
(don´t close SimPE - just leave it in the actual state)
6. open photoshop and 'work the painting texture over' with your recol texture, save the recol as PNG file
7. change into SimPE and import your overworked texture in the painting (if the Build DTX now works, choose this option - if not, choose the import option)

8. copy the recoled package in your game downloads folder

When you now start the game, you should see your painting recol in both paintings - the original and the 'copy' with BBs frame around.

I hope, this will help you ... feel free to contact me, if you still have problems. loveflower

I don't know maybe it will be easier to recolor an in game frame..just not sure how to do that either..
