Valcsi, do you test your cc when you download it, or just drop it in your game?

Is it a particular type of cc? (build/buy or CAS)

Ignis - you are so right - the game cares more about how many files you have, rather than their size :D

I usually put them in a new folder. The crash happens when I browse the catalog. First I thought it could be a particular file (because I had that too) but I couldn't locate it and it never crashes at the same object. Sometimes I just switch between live mode and build/buy and that's it. It might be the too many files, idk.

Yeah, I've got a huge "closet" myself. Glad I'm one of many.

Have you tried repairing your game, Valcsi?

Right-click on it through Origin and the option is there... (you may already do this, but every time there is an update I do it after the update and anytime I have an issue with my game).

Definitely, MissMD <3

So my laptop died on me and I lost almost 40 GB worth of mods and CC.

Wow! I only have about 16 GB of merged files and it still takes me about 20 minutes to load.

So I'm not alone. I have around 19 GB of CC. I've merged the majority of the files so it's not to bad. I also merge about 50 or so in different categories once in a while (depending how often I download new content). I've never really timed how long it takes for my game to get started. I guess about 15-20 minutes. I would love more physical memory for my computer. My game runs really slow on large lots.

Wow, you are fortunate, Megane.
I have started a new mods folder, I found too many doubles on the old one, and that was after (unfortunately) I merged some of my files. So now I am very careful what I upload.
So currently I have very few cc in my game.
But belief me, I will soon be up to my normal amount....which is about 16GB.
My game still loaded fine with that amount.

Kelsey - First, I am so sorry that happened to you :(

Second, may I suggest that you backup your cc? I do that by uploading it to my OneDrive, but there are several cloud storage applications to do that with... pretty much all of them offer space for free (space varies). You can look in the Help Center under Tech Edge ---
Click Here --- that provides a couple or articles with links so that you can pick and choose what works best for you.

I use several cloud storage sites because I have cc that isn't available any longer, not even via the Wayback Machine <3

Mégane - that is an awesome load time!

TJ & Anita - I do think duplicates slow load times... I have been working to rid myself of them, but it is difficult to do when I do project merges... I need the meshes for the recolors, but not always the same meshes. I end up with duplicates in my holding area and just work to keep them out of my game, lol.

Ibsimn - no, you are most certainly not alone! <3 You have joined the group of cc download junkies and may you never leave! :D

And I thought mines was big, rofl. Before I cleaned out my mods folder I want to say I was at 16,000 files. My game took forever to load, and lagged every five seconds (which is crazy because I have a gaming computer), so I decided for me to be able to enjoy my game I needed to clean it out . So I would say im down to about 7,000 files now ,lol.

Take a look in The Help Center under Tech Edge, Really4Simz... there are threads there that will walk you through merging your cc, if you're interested...

...merging will allow you to have your cc and a non-lagging, quick-loading game together :D

5.62gb - 1,576 files - 14 folders.
I've recently been packing up a bunch of files to make things neater, as well as deleting stuff I don't use. It's so hard to let go! I might need one of those unused items someday, lol.

Syntinen - I upload all the cc I download to my cloud storage (I use OneDrive, mostly)... that way, if I ever want something, it is there :D

...even stuff I never use, lol <3

Sims 1: 2GB 30K files
Sims 2: 7GB 45K files (Includes Store Content)
Sims 3: 11 GB: 7K files (including Store Content)
Sims 4: 21 GB 20K files

With the exception of TS1 it is all tested by the the 50/50 method and sub foldered either by type or creator so that I can find it easily if I want to do a recolor

Dee, you are so organized!

I still go back and forth with deciding how to organize...

...I know I need to have about a week where I do nothing but go through all my cc and decide what it is that I can't live without, what I never use, and how I want to organize it, lol...

Sigh...

I'll show you :D

New Downloads (Files): 18.4gb
Unmerged cc: 26.9gb
Merged cc: 81.6gb
Game 1 (current): 16.8gb
Game 2 - Big: 58.2gb
Game 3 - small: 29.8gb

Total: 225.7gb

I then removed 40% (second calculation) as I know that the game load mods' folders are duplicates of the Merged cc items (a lot, but not all) and that there are absolutely duplicates between all these folders due to having multiple copies of mesh files :D

I could have simply divided by 2, but I know that most of the unmerged cc and the new downloads in Files are not duplicates...

So, after subtracting that 40% from the original total, I have 135.42gb...

Even taking off another 20% fudge factor, I have 108.336gb...

...yeah, I have a cc problem!  rofl301

I try to stick to things I know I will use on my lots. I also got rid of a lot of older CC either because the creator disappeared and files are no longer being updated or because it was made with earlier versions of TSRW, SimPe, S3pe/oc, or Sims 4 Studio and crashed my game or conflicted with other things.. I also don't download a lot of CAS stuff. That is less than 2GB in any of my mods folders.
The biggest any of my mods folders ever go was 40 GB for TS2 but that was when I had literally everything from TSR's TS2 section
