For me it started on a 7week school break. My daughter Sam had a sleepover at her friend's place and when she came home, she told me about this awesome game they rented called The Sims! Trying to keep the boredom of school holidays at bay, I told her I would rent this Sims game for her! Unbeknown to me my second eldest was already playing Sims 1.

Then the nagging started.....Mum come and watch you will love this game, eventually I gave in! The four of us sat there for what seemed like hours, I was hooked. I had to get this Sims game, but not for me, for my kids. I went to K Mart bought the base game, then I saw all the expansion packs.....OMG I thought the kids will love this. I remember grabbing Hot Date first, had to have that, then I couldn't decide what else to get them, so I bought everything. The Sims wasn't as expensive back then, I was working and even better, everything was discounted.......I love a bargain! giggle

That school break was the best ever! And eventually the kids convinced me to start playing......that was it, I was hooked. One computer and everyone wanting to play the Sims, so I had to allot an hour for each child and for myself impatient Oh my gosh what a nightmare ROFL

Anyway that is all history and something like 12 years on, I am still here, Simming.........the kids have all moved on (now that they have their own computers giggle )

I discovered it in 2007 when my brother's girlfriend was playing Sims2..I sat and watched her and was shocked on them being electrocuted in the tub of water and I said omgosh your going to kill them..and it turned out the Sims loved it it gave them energy..and all that..lol..sat and watched more and finally I got a computer of my own and used her disks and I was hooked..that was 2008..2009 I started buying the disks at Wal Mart and I played for about a year before I found the Sims2 official site and then about a year after that before I started using CC..

I bet after they went to bed you got more than an hour in didn't you Lorry giggle

Thank you so much Crissi, it's beautiful

Oh my gosh Sam rofl301 I can't stop laughing at your reaction to the Sim being electrocuted!

Ohhhh YES to that.......I played and I played with no interruptions. After a while I would say to the kids, I am the mother, and it's my computer giggle
Even better when they went back to school doggy2

My daughter had bought the game of a friend and I watched sometime when she was playing and then playing when she was in school. I think she had all the EP and then I thought it was the coolest game that I found out I did not know about download at that time.

Oh my, aren't we so similar!!
My son Stefan told me about this cool game he read about..... now he was a Playstation player at the time, playing Lara Croft and some other games. He was subscribed to a magazine rating all kinds of games, and then he showed it to me when the sims was rated.
Well then he convinced me that we have to buy the game (sims 1) which I did. We also had only the one computer, but allocating playing time was a little easier since we were only three playing. And Stefan had his playstation to keep him busy and he often willingly gave his time to me or one of the girls.
There were times though that I had to do my best to calm down the tempers when one of them was exceeding their playing time.
We all had our own neighbourhood, and no one dared to go into the other's 'hood and mess things up.

Then the sims 2 came, and though I played the sims 1 I only got really hooked when we upgraded to sims 2. After a few nasty fights about time with the game, I decided to invest in a new computer for myself. That helped a lot.

Stefan lost his interest in the game not long after ( he was getting older and he and his friends started playing all the was games.) So I was left with my pc and no one wanted to share anymore.

So I won in the end. I think I will be playing for years to come.

rofl301 Oh Anita we do have the same story.......we had to use an alarm in the end because the kids were saying, 'your time is up, I am owed another minute' blah blah blah.
LOL the Sims nearly destroyed my family.......not really, but there were more arguments than normal giggle

In the summer of 2000 I was reading a copy of Homes and Gardens and in it there was a feature on The Sims. They were saying that if you like home decoration you would like this game. I was intrigued and my children bought it for me as a mother's day present. Back then all that was available was the original game and I remember being so excited and impressed with the expansion pack. The rest of mys troy probably follows everyone else's. I ended up with all the expansions (I only got rid of them last week to a charity) and was ecstatic when Sims 2 came out because I was frustrated with the limitations of Sims 1. I have build houses and uploaded them for every game and when Sims 3 came out had no intention of converting. I loved TS2, again I had all expansion packs, lots of CC and numerous houses and neighborhoods that I loved. However, my son had other idea's and bought TS3 for me for my birthday. Needless to say I was hooked and followed the same pattern with TS2 as I had with the previous versions. This time though I got hooked on pattern making with the Create A Pattern Tool and recoloured lots of sets. When TS4 came out it wasn't compatible with the imac which is what I play Sims on so there was not inclination to upgrade. However, once it became available for mac user I was divided but when it was reduced to less than half price in January 16 I gave in. Now I wouldn't go back to TS3 and cannot wait until each EP, SP and GP comes out. AS for my children they have never really been that into it like I was, although my grand daughter has all my old TS3 disks ready for when she gets a computer. She now just commandeers my computer when she visits.

Nikki I am amazed that you saw an ad for the Sims in a reputable magazine.....it makes me wonder who the game was originally designed for, after all most of us that play are generally female, 30 and over. Whoever did the marketing for the Sims, new exactly who to target!
What great kids you have to keep updating the games in the way of birthday gifts.

I love Sims 4 and if there is a Sims 5, I know I wouldn't be able to resist it.....SOLD

LOL, Lorry I am just like you..... I would be so tempted to try out the sims 5 if there ever is one! I will not be able to fool myself by saying I like the sims 4 too much, because though I loved the sims 2 I bought the sims 3 and most of the EP's and SP's. I played a little but only created for the sims 2 at the time.
When the sims 4 came out, which coincided with my upgrading my computer, I could hardly wait to get it set up so I could install the sims 4. Do to my upgrade to Windows 7, I found it almost impossible to get the sims 2 games installed again. It just was not playable anymore. Never loaded. So I accepted my fate, and completely converted to the sims 4.
I did not regret my decision! I love the sims 4 game even if it still has a few limitations.

Nikki, I am not as fortunate as you to get the games as presents..... may be because I dont' give anybody a chance to buy it for me, since I pre-order every new edition!! giggle

I had no idea what the Sims were. But was I in for a treat!

When my parents bought our first home computer, there was a few game discs included with the purchase (it was a special sale at the time). I remember flipping through the holder the CDs were in but Sims never really interested me just looking at it. Then my sister said she had played it and explained what it was exactly. We spent the rest of that afternoon playing. I remember asking the next day if she wanted to play again but she wasn't interested so I spent that summer break playing by myself. giggle I saved my money for expansions and got a few for Christmas. Then when TS2 came out everyone was so exited for it. The things you could do!  giggle3

Anita I don't think I have ever decorated so much as I do in Sims 4, which quite surprised me. I  just love love love it so much coeur

Wow Alouette fancy discovering the Sims through a new pc, it makes sense though. I think it was meant to be, if you hadn't played that day with your sister, we may never had met bighugs2

Definitely was introduced to ts2 by my kids...

...then Ben reminded me that they had talked me in getting them The Sims! (that was so long ago, I hadn't remembered! LOL)

...I didn't play ts2 much, but did discover cc and was truly flabbergasted - right about the time ts3 came out.

...and, you guessed it, the boys got me to get that. They did not have to work too hard, either! lol

I loved building in ts3 and learned how to manipulate terrain with the best of them! Oh, the things I could do! hehehehehe

...but, ts3 kept crashing (all that cc I just had to have), so when ts4 was announced, I couldn't wait.

I was initially disappointed, but then, within a short amount of time, I was totally sold. No crashing, tons of great cc - that I could actually get into my game...

...now, with the ease of merging (waaaaay easier than in ts3), I am a happy camper.

If ts5 comes out, yep - I'll be getting that, too! :D

(we have everything! The Sims, ts2, ts3, and ts4 - everything they ever sold, LOL)

Yikes I don't like more than 2 tabs open at a time.........all though, when I am downloading a Sim, that's when I go out of my comfort zone.
