Just a short note to let you know that I was so upset yesterday and was actually crying my eyes out!!

I was fortunate enough to have the afternoon off work. So I booked my dog, Chelsea to have her grooming and myself to have a haircut.
Friday traffic at one is extremely busy, since SASOL, the main employer in our area, where literally thousand of people work, closes office at 13:00 on Fridays.
So as I was on my way to pick Cheslea up I had to use the main road, which was packed to the brim with vehicles! I turned at a robot, and was waiting for a car in front of me to turn to the right into a shopping area, when I heard and felt a loud crash..... only to realize the collision happened to me!!!!!!!!

I could not believe it!! I just sat there. Then this young man, still looking like a teen, came to my window and said: "Aunt, I am so sorry, but could we just move our vehicles out of the way?"
And I go like: "Young man, where on earth are you eyes!!!???? And did you not know that you are not allowed to move a car after an accident!!"
And he goes: "I know that aunt (tannie in afrikaans) but it is getting even bussier and we are holding up the traffic"
I just could not master the strength to get out of my car to look at the damage.
But i did, and I had my cellphone with me, so I was able to take a few snapshots of the cars. I drive a SUV and he had a tiny VW Polo Vivo, but both our cars were damaged quite badly.

I shook so much I could not even write to get the information needed! The man who was in front of me, was such a dear, he came to give me his details, usually in our world, everyone just run for the bushes and do not get involved.

So, I drove off to fetch Chelsea, and when I got back into the car, had to fight not to burst into tears!

I was late picking her up.....
I was going to be late for my own hair appointment..... I now had to go to the police station to report the accident....... and it takes hours!! Since here we work in Africa time..... no one is in a hurry!

While waiting there, the young man also came, and in that moment my heart just melted. He was indeed quite young (turned out to be 25) and when he saw me I could see that he was really concern.... " Are you okay?" was the first thing he asked. I smiled, and gave him a hug, and apologized for being angry at the scene.
We made our combined report, and off we went. He must feel even worse than I did since he is the "guilty" party. And it could have been my son.....

So I went to have  my hair cut, it did not turn out the way I wanted it.

I went home and went straight to bed...... when my husband came, surprised at finding me in my pj's in bed...... I could not hold back the tears!
He was surprised, and said that he did not notice anything when he walked passed the car.....so I went out with him.
He just held me and comforted me...... it is but earthly possessions...... you are fine and that is what matters....... things can be fixed so no need to worry.......

I still felt bad when I went to sleep. But this morning I know...... things happen. Things can be fixed. I have insurance. What is the little discomfort about being without a car? How do I get to work? (I hate being dependent on other people!!) I still do not like to look out the window and see the backside of my car.......but I am slowly getting there not to worry about it too much!

Ohh dear anita
I can understand that you are shocked, from such an unexpected accident
And yes the people are sometimes so ruthless in traffic
That they forget that an accident can exist and hurt themselves and other people
I am glad that only your car has suffered damage. And not you and your dog Cheslea
But take care of yourself and your dog now, Huh!!! and take a lot of rest.even you're angry about this happening
Because this will last for days in your mind  summerB7

OMG Anita! I did not see this post earlier today until just now! I"m soooooo glad you are alright! And, I agree with your husband, things can be replaced and people can't. So just thank the good Lord that you and your furbaby are safe!

I know it's so terrifying and upsetting when this happens and it's all you can think about for awhile, and then you're afraid to drive again! The guy that hit you feels real bad I'm sure and it's just a blessing that nobody got hurt!

I think you should go get checked out too, just to be on the safeside! Things like whiplash usually doesn't affect you until later on. It's lucky you didn't see it coming or you'd have been tensed up and possible done true damage to your body while waiting for the impact!

You rest and take care of yourself and let the insurance companies handle everything!

*hugz

You are the dearest of friends!!  I feel a little better today.....just hang around yesterday feeling blue.
I am fine.....not hurt in any way.
I still do not want to look out the window to see my car...... wishfully thinking that when I eventually do it will be all right! giggle

What I dread is the fact as as soon as you claim against the insurance they increase your monthly premium!! I know the insurance company will sue the other insurance company for their loss and I will get my excess back, but that might take months. In the mean time I will have to cater for everything..... and you know how it is.... one never plans for a thing like this to happen.

Well, today I am going to build a house.....and decorate it......and move someone in to live there..... looking forward to that!!

I hope you are good Anita.
The main thing is that nobody got badly injured and I understand you're sad about your car.
My daughter crashed with a deer and cried that the car broke down so it had to be in the workshop.

Oh Anita, I'm so glad you are ok! Such an event really takes its toll on us emotionally. Try to take some time to relax now, as post traumatic stress can really make us feel quite low for a little while. bighugs2
I hope you manage to get your car fixed, but the biggest thing is that you and Chelsea are ok. Everything else will sort itself out in time.
I had someone drive into the back of my car while I stopped at a traffic light. The damage to my car was enormous! I felt very shaken for a while. Fortunately my insurance company took care of everything and I didn't have to pay an excess either. That did help ease it.
Take care sweetie.

I just wanted to add my wishes along with everyone else. Fortunately you were nor anyone else was hurt. Sending love and keep smiling wishes your way.

I would send flowers but they'd probably be wilted and not nice by the time they reach Africa from UK. loveflower

Thank you so much Nikki..... I adore the ones you sent!

I have spoken to the claims department this morning, and must have my car at the repair shop tomorrow morning for the assessment. It may take some time to have it approved and then yet another few weeks to have is booked for repairs. So I might be inconvenienced by this for quite a while.

Lisa, I will have to pay the excess but the insurance company will claim the money back.... then I will be refunded. And my no-claim bonus be restored.

I am feeling much better today. Am mostly over the shock.
Had a laugh early this morning when I drove to work..... the on board computer kept on telling me that i should proceed with caution to the nearest service station! When ignored I have beep sounds in my ears the whole time. LOL!!!

Anita - I'm so glad you're feeling better! And, yes I'd have laughed too at the computer telling you that your car needed serviced ... welll, duhhh! LOL

I do hope you can somehow disable that annoying constant beeping sound tho. That would drive me nuts, especially if it's going to be weeks before you can get your car looked at for repairs!

Maybe the insurance company will pay for a rental car for you to drive while your car is being worked on, to lessen the inconvenience of being without transportation. I know they do that here quite often.

It would only be possible if you opted for that and that is included in the monthly premium..... which I unfortunately did not do...
My son said he will see if he can get something for me to use when the car is going in for repairs.... up til then..... beeping is the way to go!LOL

Anita!

I am finally getting caught up with notifications when I read Sam's post about this in The Mix...

I am so happy to hear that both you and Chelsea (thank goodness she wasn't in the car) are okay.

It is such a shock when this happens... especially when you are the one getting crashed into!

I'm glad to hear your insurance company will be appropriate to the fact that you weren't at fault.

While we could all wish this hadn't happened, at least all will (eventually) be put to rights.

Hugs and Love and more Hugs!!!

Lorry: It is so true. Life is just too short to sit and mutter about things you can change nothing about... I just had to vent when it happened. I am a positive person as well and am almost laughing about the incident!

Suzanne: Yip I am glad about that too, she would have been siting on the back seat and who knows.... she might have been the one getting hurt. Thank you for your comment!

I am now going to change the name of this topic!!

Anita - I'm so glad you're in a better frame of mind over this! And, yes, I always tell my girls there's no reason to be upset over things you can not change, you can't go back and undo it, so be thankful that it wasn't more serious and nobody (you or Chelsea) or even the young man who hit you, got hurt!

But, I know exactly what you're going thru tho. I had someone sideswipe me on a dark, snowy country road one night on my way home from work. He never stopped! And my car was only a year old, and I loved it! I was so upset, but luckily he didn't do a terrible amount of damage, just a small pushed in dent and a scrape along the entire side of the driver side. I called the police and they came out, took a description of the car and driver, but I didn't have a license plate number. They told me to get estimates on how much it would cost to have the car repaired because with the minimal damage that was done, it might be cheaper to have it fixed without involving the insurance company, because I had $250 deductible that I would have to pay up front first. And, if the repairs were less then the deductible, the insurance company really didn't need to know because they'd probably raise my rates for it. So, in the end I just paid for the repairs months later, but I still had to look at the damage every time I got into it! :-(

LOL, TJ that is what is getting to me as well.....having to look at the car.
But I had the damage estimated this morning and will know in a day or two what it is going to cost. But I know I would not be able to do it out of pocket!!
