I hope it's ok to put this here! Please feel free to delete it or give me 50 lashes if not! LOL

Anyway, I came up with this idea last night while I was laying in bed.

Does anybody (besides me) remember the show on HGTV or DIY (can't remember which) back in like 2008 that was called Design On A Dime?

Basically the whole show was about this interior decorator and her carpenter team who made over a room at the request of the homeowners in the style they wanted, all within a certain budget! I used to LOVE that show! They had so many unique ideas! And, the really nice thing was, that the "average" person could do this too without spending a ton of money!

So, I thought it would be fun to challenge everybody who wanted to participate in something similar! (This challenge is open for all members regardless of which game!)

Here's Your Challenge!

After the kids all left home, homeowners John and Mary wanted a change so they contacted you for help! Mary likes more traditional styles and loves the color yellow, while John loves modern styles. They both agreed that she could have her yellow on an accent wall and they'd compromise by blending their two design styles together for the rest!

1. Create a Dining Room with ONE yellow accent wall in your choice of styles.

2. The room must contain typical dining room furniture .... ie: table and chairs, any accent furniture, curtains, lighting, and decor of your choice. (Keep in mind that you must blend both modern and traditional styles together to keep them both happy! This includes your plants, flowers, and clutter ..... you are NOT allowed to change the price of items in S4S or any other program!).

3. You have $3,000 to spend to make this happen, so choose wisely! (Windows, Doors, and Flooring do not have to be included in your costs since these are usually not changed in a remodel, but any paint or new wall coverings do.

4. You must keep track of what each item costs and the final total of what you spent on your room make-over as part of your post.

Most Importantly ..... HAVE FUN!

And, I can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Oh TJ I love Yellow!

You know I'm a big spender, so having a limit of $3000 is going to be hard for me, but I am going to give it a go......are you sure your idea tell you $30,000 giggle

LOL Lorry!

I loved this show, and all the old shows (While You Were Out! Trading Spaces!) from HGTV. Good idea, TJ!

Hi Lorry!

Another fun idea might be to try find a photo and do a version of the room on a budget and a second version on an unlimited budget!

I agree Anita, I think we should include a price list......at least I am going to.
I want to see if can actually do it!

Alouette I've never looked at pricing, so I could be already doing it on a budget giggle

I'm in. I will try and work on some of these projects this weekend :D

TJ, I used to watch that show and Trading Spaces :) I believe DoaD was HGTV and Trading Spaces was ... TLC? Been so long, lol. I still remember on Trading Spaces when they decided to do a room in cardboard and how angry the homeowners were (they glued cardboard to walls).
Now I watch Property Brothers, House Hunters, Love It or List It, and my absolute favorite... Fixer Upper.

Ohhhh I loved all those shows too Melisa! And, OMG! I never saw the glued cardboard one! I don't blame them for being mad! LOL

I don't hardly watch any of them any more, unless I'm truly bored. I am upset because there's no longer any decorating shows, it's all about real estate or flipping houses. There used to be Design Cents, My First Apartment, and a lot more that was dedicated to interior design ideas. Makes me sad.

But, I do love Fixer Upper tho, Chip is a nut and makes me laugh every time. Did you see the one where he took off his clothes in the antique store and put on old fishing waders with the straps over his shoulders? LOL

TJ, I understand what you mean. There are no shows left for everyday people like us giving us tips on how to decorate.

Ohhh, I just remembered another one I absolutely loved... Divine Design. I watched that one religiously, kinda like I do now with Fixer Upper, lol.

As for Chip... I did see that episode! I was cracking up, but the one that stuck out to me was when he ate that cockroach. If I were Joanna I wouldn't have kissed him for a week, lol.

Rana, I would be very happy if it did make a comeback. That was the show that got me interested in design. I would love it if they could get Ty, Genevieve (sp?), and Vern back.

This was harder than what I thought it would be, I have had to return items because I was over budget on more than one occasion swear
Finally I have come in under $3000, but I will check my figures again, before I upload my entry.

ummm does anyone have a calculator? hmmm

lmao Lorry! That so made me bust out laughing when I read that! All I kept picturing was you doing that in RL!

* Get home
* Start adding everything up, over budget! Oh $h*tttt!!
* Off to the store you go to return items
* Pick out different ones
* Back home again, only to still be over budget! LOL

Welcome to my life! I always have to decorate on a budget and be really, really creative with it and stretch it as far as it will go! LOL

Too bad there's not a "gently used" Sim Store where things are discounted! LOL

OMG!!! Chica, I am in love with this room! You have outdone yourself (and on a budget too even!) I'm speechless, it's just so perfect! I love every single thing about it. I know John and Mary will be absolutely thrilled with it! And it's so totally different than what you normally design. You are one amazing decorator! Seriously! Is there nothing you can't do?

You know, I now have more WCIF's, don't you? LOL

I agree..... you are an exceptional creator!!! I just love the use of yellow without having it overpowering!! Just lovely!! And you know the skyline you used is absolutely stunning!!

I am like Suzanne......I have so much to catch up on.....but I want to do this as well.
