I have read so many topics now where our we express our feelings about what we don't like about the sims games.
I also see that many of us are unhappy about this or that about the game, whether it is sims 2, 3 or 4. We are not happy with gameplay, not happy with not having terrain tools, not having seasons..... or in sims 3 the lag in the game.... I can go on and on.

That made we wonder......

What is it about the sims that keeps us going back to the game? Why, if we are not happy with so many things about the game, are we drawn to it every minute we have free time on our hands? Is it that there are still some magic about the game, is it keeping us young at heart, why, if we don't like so many things about it, can we not turn our backs on it say: we are done?

Since I am asking the question, I will kick off with saying that I needed to explore the game to find what about it makes me happy.

I am a player/decorator and creator.  I also have my own little stories which I make up as the lives of my sims progress.
That gives me a lot of joy!

I love the little surprises I get when I allow the sims full autonomy and they do what they like.
I like how they make up their minds about what they want or do not want to do. Even if they stand around wondering what they should be doing....

I love creating..... it gives me so much joy to see that there are players/decorators/builders out there who like some of my stuff. Boy, that makes my heart actually jump with joy!

What I like the most, is the fact that I can loose myself for hours, looking for cc, decorating a new house for a family, even sometimes trying my own hand at building, and when I sit back and look at what I have done, I feel so relaxed and happy and content.

And this is what is going to keep me behind my pc for years to come!

I love the game!

Anita - This is a wonderful topic! I think for me, first and foremost, is the ability to decorate in any style I like (which I can't do in RL because it's expensive to keep changing). And, I absolutely LOVE to create! I love to take something and put my own touch on it and turn it into a one of a kind object with hopefully a "new look". And, I love to create simple little meshes that suit my design ideas and with TS4 I can do that.

The other thing for sure is, the CC Shopping! It feeds my shopping addiction without spending any RL money (all in the comfort of my home, without fighting crowds or the weather! LOL)

And, I love so much to see the talent of other, equally obsessed players, whether it be in decorating, building, or creating CC and walls/floors! I love that! It inspires me! I love to see how other people use my CC or how they use things in general. I am always amazed at the creativity of some people in using in a different way that creates a totally different look than what it was originally created as.

Oh Anita your reasons mirror my own. I love getting lost in another world, I can build the houses I want and spend hours decorating them, I love creating a family or character and living with them through their lives. I too create stories about my creations I have always been a lover of Fairy Tales and Fantasies and with Sims I create my own.

As for downloading CC well I'm bit of a shopaholic too and I can do that quite easily without spending a penny, well unless I'm buying an expansion, stuff, or game pack and I do donate to Simcredibles.

I also really love seeing what other people can do, one of my favourite things is competitions and challenges I love seeing the different things people create with the same floor plan and set of criteria. I don't think people realise they put a lot of themselves in what they create. I notice that most (not all) people with build and decorate in the style of the their own country.

I haven't done so in Sims 4 but in all the previous versions I would build the huge houses and castles I visited in real life sometimes they are too big to play which is why I think I haven't built them in TS4 because I do play the game as well as built and create in it.

Nikki, when I do try and build my own houses, I tend to lean towards the old English houses.
I love all those that I saw in magazines and try to copy them.

It is like a fairytale to me too. And you and TJ are on the spot, all the shopping and building and changing to one's heart content, and it is absolutely free!

The sims attract me when I get to use my creativity, I love to build houses and can spend several hours choosing windows doors and wallpapers. I think my style is quite Swedish but I have started looking for houses on the internet so there will be some variation. The other is cc. There is so much fine (as you would not afford IRL) and you can combine styles and change wallpaper if they do not fit the furniture.
I try to find new ways to build houses.
Competitions are also one thing that's fun when you see what others can do with the same room and especially fun is doing something that you would never do otherwise.

I agree with a lot that has been said above. When the Sims 1 came out it was a 'game of life'. My kids got me addicted and I did the rest.

For me its the ability to make an ideal world. Which is hard due to the black/white good/bad thing it has going on. I love to create for the Sims 2 (my all time fav game) and Sims 4 (much easier to create objects).

But the real attraction has always been to create a peaceful happy place to live. Our modern society has only evolved bigger clubs and warmer caves. If I cant get a utopia here after a million years of evolutionary upgraded DNA then why not give in and play a fantasy world?

I do play, I know a lot of creators only make objects but I do feel that I have to try even if Sims 4 is a bit cartoony lol. I hope that eventually one of these games will present a whole bunch of options to choose how we live rather than being tied to a programmed ideal that makes money rather than a wow factor that is real life.
So for me its living the dream (using Sims 2 for all the water filled/control, lives and Sims 4 for the testing). And for the friends I've made while playing these games; priceless. bighugs2

I love a positive thread as much as I love my Sims!

:thy: Anita buddy

What do I love about the Sims.........I can get lost in the Sims for hours at a time.
For me it's continually exploring my creativity.

I can be watching the tv, see a flicker of something I really love with a house, then I have to try and create it in my might be just an entrance way, but to me it's so much more.

It's an escape to a perfect world where there is no hate, no war, no racism, no violence and never ever, money issues (motherlode, I love you giggle )

The only thing I struggle with is, what to do when I get into my, play or decorate crazyspin

I also love to see what other Simmers are doing.  I could look at pictures all day long, I still after so many years of Simming, get blown away at the talent in this community.

Happy Simming to All  theworld

Ha Ha, I've asked myself this question many times, lol.
I don't play the game and have no interest in that at all. But I haven't played the actual game in a long time....
For me, its about creativity. I build a house and as I'm building it kind of evolves as I create it. I imagine who lives there and the how they live their lives, what their tastes are and so on....
Its a bit of escapism. I have a tough job In RL and this does help me put all of that aside, as its pretty much a perfect world.
I also find that building a house leads me to wanting something I cant find, so I make some walls, a recolour or painting to fit what I'm looking for. I like doing that.
But the big thing for me, is when I upload a house. A few days later I look at sfs to see if its actually been downloaded and I'm always shocked at the amount of downloads. I guess that gives me a bit of a buzz that people like what I create!
So I love the game, but only from a creators perspective.

I like to create sims, decorate the houses, and play with sims them but with a story because I get bored very quickly with the gameplay.. I also like to follow challenges from the simmers community (100 baby challenge, not so berry..)

I think what keeps me going with sims is cc and mods. Once I download more cc and mods, I always want to go in game and play with them. When I get bored with that, being apart of different simming community helps me stay active with the game as well. Like I may see someone post about a sim stories and get inspired to play or do something similar.

CC and mods are indeed a very integral part of my game as well. Even though I use EA's stuff, I am not very fond of it.
I also draw a lot of inspiration for my game from what our very talented members on this forum do.
I am doing something sim related almost every day, and I love every moment of it.

Everything about the game really keeps me attached to the game, but what I really enjoy about them is making and decorating houses.

I think it's a creative outlet for me to build and design homes. I rarely play the game anymore. I bought TS4 Cats and Dogs and last night was the first time I played the game in months. Then I discovered that my sims had problems eating and it reminded me why I usually have to pick between gameplay and CC. I can't have both since the updates and CC screw with actually playing the Sims haha

For me it's escaping from real life..I don't have to have drama or any of that in the game..and I can live the way I would like to live in real life..

Then there is the friends and family side of it..finding Bloom@CherryBlossom Sims has also become my family and friends and I can say or do just about anything here without be judged or yelled at..I also, don't have to tip toe around and wait for the other shoe to's a wonderful feeling to be where I am liked, loved and wanted.. valentine1f

Thank you so much Crissi, it's beautiful

I think what keeps drawing me back is that each game (when finished) is usually a bunch of fun, and you can go on all these different adventures. I like building a lot, and decorating; so games like the Sims 4 are great. You can create anything you want in the game (with some restrictions).

I think I can agree with so many here saying it's an escapism. I've really needed it since my life has been so difficult dealing with bad health (physical and mental) and I've needed a way to break away from it all. I also love creating sims and decorating their homes, envisioning what my future home could look like feeldaluv

Customizing and designing my sims and homes as if I lived there. It's a great escape and it's like living another life with my alter ego.

That is the same for me monkeysmomma, I do try to find time to play as well. But recently I find it much more relaxing to decorate.
