I am revamping my sims 2 game because I lost everything in a crash so I lost everything for my sims 2 game and it is pretty hard to find everything because most sites are closed and a lot of the creators are retired. I have been web searching and notice a lot of nice things I would like to have for my sims 2 but they are s3 and I don't know anything about converting so I was wondering if there is a tutorial for beginners for 3t2 and 4t2. Any information or help is greatly apprecaited.

Stacie, I would check with MTS. I know I have read some tutorials on there as I wanted to learn to convert to TS2 also, so that I could share my creations with everybody, but it was over my head!

Now, that could be because I create for TS4 and it's really simple to convert things from other games to it, so that might be why it seemed so daunting to convert to TS2.

If OrangeMittens is the one who wrote the tutorial on how to convert things then it should be a really easy tutorial to follow as she is awesome at writing step by step instructions and is the one who wrote the tutorial for converting items to TS4.

I hope you find something that works! Also, I know that FreeAsABird ,who is also a resident artist here, does convert things to TS2, so she might be willing to answer some questions for you if you would get stuck.

There are a bunch of conversions out there already. I play Sims 2. Have you checked the 3t2 database? And there are bunch of creators that have converted stuff - Trapping did a lot of hairs (check the hair database) I've got links and stuff. Also, if you are looking for something specific for the Sims 2, I may have it since that is what I play. PM me.

Of course learning to convert is a great idea as well.

I come bearing gifts. Below are links that will get you started finding stuff.

3t2 Database last updated 2014

Sims 1 to 2 database last updated 2015

4t2 conversions - no longer being updated

Sims 2 Hair Database - lots of conversions from TS3 & TS4 to TS2.
Also a good way to find different textures & colors for your favorite meshes.

Veranka's Downloads - Does a lot of high quality Sims 3 and 4 to 2 stuff.

Sims 2 Store stuff with addons and recolors by CC creators.

The Sims 2 Pre-order incentives, including some stuff from Europe

Some of the "official" exchange stuff - MaxoidMonkey, official contest winners, etc

TS3 to TS2 Hood Deco converted

I cannot say enough about this pinterest use: JT   link

She has well over 150 separate boards.  All Sims 2 by category.  Some with over a hundred pins.  She has at least 10 separate boards devoted medieval Sims stuff, several for Victorian, poseboxes, etc.  Pick an era or subjects and she's probably got pins devoted to it. It's good stuff too.  She's even got a board for the best mods/hacks in the game - like allowing toddlers to play peek-a-boo together.

This should get you guys started.

Converting from TS3 and TS4 is easy for furniture and deco items if you already know how to make new objects for TS2 with SimPE. If you don't, find a basic tutorial on object creating. There are some at Modthesims.

I use TSR Workshop for TS3 (sometimes TS4 too, but it doesn't always manage the long textures) and Sims4Studio for TS4, for extracting the meshes and textures. TS3 objects will extract as OBJ and PNG, both easy to work with in SimPE. Sims4Studio extracts as PNG, but uses Blender for meshes, so you may have to find some tutorials on how to use that program (it's not the easiest to use, but if you're only extracting the OBJ you don't need to know all that much)

For most deco objects they work fine as-is, so you can import the mesh and texture to SimPE as you would do if you made them yourself (you can use most TS2 object tutorials for this, just skip the meshing/texturing/UVmapping bits).

Some objects with added functionality or different placement (beds, chairs, curtains, anything animated, etc.) will need some resizing and on occasion remodelling or bone assignments to look alright in TS2. This can be done with some basic knowledge in any 3D program, though I do suggest Milkshape or Blender.

It took me a while, but having to work with Blender when I convert TS4 meshes has made me learn the basics of the program. It's got a hopelessly bad outlay, but once you find the most useful buttons and functions you can manage pretty much in it.

Converting clothes is another chapter entirely, and much more complicated.
