My strange love of conversions

For some reason, when I find converted sets from older Sims games (I play 4 exclusively now), I feel like more than usual that I've gotten a real prize. It is probably the hoarder in me my archival instinct kicking in. I love original cc as well, of course. But for some reason, getting something converted from an old game feels like beating the system, almost. I buy all the games legally, so it isn't that I'm trying to cheat in reality. It just kind of feels like I am. Anyone else?

I play Sims 2 exclusively.  I love conversions. I have stuff from Sims 1, 3 and 4 in my game.  I own Sims 1 and 3 (a friend gave me her stuff when she quit playing) but I don't feel like it is cheating to put stuff from 4 in my game.

I look at it this way.  Someone took the time to extract the object and then convert it. They add recolors and package it up.  In a way, they are changing it from its original form.

It's no different then putting in stuff from Skyrim or Dragon Age, or another game into the Sims.

If I could get more objects from Makin' Magic for the Sims 2, I would be thrilled.  Especially if they were functional.  I love that expansion so much and I scour the Interwebz looking for stuff to match it.

I've seriously considered trying to learn to mesh and recolor just to make the stuff for myself.

At the end of the day, I've paid hundreds of dollars to EA for these games.  They are not going to lose any sleep or money because I get objects converted from Sims 3/4 to Sims 2.  I'm not going to get Sims 4 partly because I refuse to buy games from them because of many years of shady shenanigans on their part and partly because my PC would smack me if I tried.

Also, if I'm honest, I'm still bitter over the non-existent magic expansion/magic being shoved into Apartment Life and sucking.

Don't feel like it is cheating.  Just enjoy.  EA is not going to care one way or another. If they did, they would have put cease and desists out long ago.  And they have the lawyers/power to do it.

I should have been clearer. I don't actually feel guilty. I appreciate your reassurance, though. But I, too, have spent hundreds of dollars (I think I'd rather not know how many hundreds) on these games. I've been playing since Sims 1, and I am not worried in the least. I just get an extra little thrill for conversions that I don't feel for completely new meshes, which is silly, because I know it takes a lot of work to create new meshes. But there it is.

Okay, I get ya.

I know exactly what you mean. Especially, when it's a piece that hadn't been converted up to that point and someone finally did it. I really get super excited when I find Makin' Magic stuff. It's the best feeling ever.
